Public school partnerships aims to empower parents and teachers while supporting government to overcome the massive gaps in education quality and learner outcomes. Here’s what public school partnerships parents, teachers and government officials have to say about their involvement and the programme’s impact.
Hon. FB Gade
MEC for Education

We decided to be involved precisely because of the understanding that education improvement in the province requires collaboration among different stakeholders. The data… is promising.

The Collaboration Schools are making a positive impact by giving quality education to learners from disadvantaged communities at no cost to the learners and their families. The schools are equipping the learners for life through skills mastery and motivating them to compete against themselves, so they can be the best that they can be and reach their full potential.

Collaboration opens new channels of communication for us as teachers. It helps us to find solutions together with common Good as our SOP. We learn from each other every day. It brings people in our organisations closer together. We create plans together that support and assist all of us to do better. It means a lot to most of the teachers because it provides extra work opportunities for the community and surroundings. Last but not least, we share the workload in order to provide quality work.
DEBBIE SCHÄFER
Former Western Cape
Minister of Education
In the WCED’s annual Systemic Testing for Grades 3, 6 and 9, Collaboration Schools have on average showed increases in performance above the provincial average – an encouraging sign of improvement at these schools.

The teachers at a Collaboration school are true role models. We show our learners that we can also improve and learn from mistakes. Our teacher coaches are amazing, because they help us become better educators, better lesson planners and better class managers through a growth mindset and practical steps. So personal development is not just talking the talk, but we are also walking the walk. This is the future of education, because the learners, educators, SMT and Acorn education share a common goal: Striving for excellence – because just passing a grade or showing up is not evident of a growth mindset and won’t lead to our scholars’ success after school.

It’s a good project; it’s as if it was designed for our community. Previously, people were not so eager to take their kids to school, but now everyone wants their child to be at PsP school. Most of their schools had been renovated. Support staff like clerks, teachers, tablet facilitators and career interns have been employed; it’s addressing the shortage of staff in the schools. PSP has created jobs in the community. We also benefit from PsP trainings and meetings.
